Dr. Joyce Chan is the Vice President Academic, Professor of Church History, and the Director of the ReGeneration Program at Carey. Joyce has a deep sense of calling toward nurturing and formative ministries expressed within the framework of congregational and institutional life. She holds a strong conviction in the priesthood of all believers and theological education for the whole people of God. To that end, she started the Chinese ministries program at Carey in 2004 to empower and equip Chinese immigrant Christians and their second generation leaders. Her most recent publications include: Rediscover the Fading Memories: Early Chinese Canadian Christian History (2013), William Dean and the First Chinese Study Bible (2014) and a book chapter in Poverty and the Poor in the World's Religious Traditions (2019). Besides teaching at Carey, Joyce teaches grade 3-5 Sunday School at her church, West Point Grey Baptist Church, where she receives more challenging theological questions than at the seminary. When Joyce is not working, she enjoys reading with her children, painting and calligraphy. Joyce and her husband Benny are parents to Clement and Victoria. Their family resides in beautiful British Columbia.
