Mission Practitioner in Residence
Candler School of Theology, Emory University

The Rev. Jaehyoung (Jay) Choi is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church. Currently, Jay serves as a missionary in residence at the Global Ministries Headquarters in Atlanta. As an active missionary, the role of the missionary in residence is to be a liaison between Global Ministries and its missionaries both around the world and in the U.S. The work of the missionary in residence is pastoral, listening to and caring for missionaries, directing their diverse concerns to Global Ministries, and organizational, advocating for missionaries.

Choi joined the Candler faculty in 2019 as mission practitioner in residence. The Missionary Practitioner in Residence Program was developed in partnership with Global Ministries with the twin goals of deepening GBGM's affiliation with Candler and helping students understand the mission of the church in the contemporary world.

Prior to his arrival in Atlanta, Choi was a missionary serving in the Philippines for 18 years, working with the youth in the Philippines Annual Conference and later teaching at Union Theological Seminary and Wesley Divinity School. His passion has been sharing biblical and theological teaching on land justice and the mission of the church in the world full of suffering and groaning.

Choi is an ordained minister and full member of the Philippines Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
