Assistant Professor of Bible
Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

Growing up in a Christian family was not easy for Donald Kim. When his father passed away at 11 years of age, he quickly had to come to grips with a God, whom he thought to be benevolent and merciful. Theological matters were not just fanciful discussions that one threw around at a dinner table. The wrestle became real, and eventually in high school was when he disowned God. That was the beginning of personally rediscovering God, who not only loved but deeply understood the pains of a fallen world.

At University of Texas in Austin, after switching undergraduate majors four times, Kim fell in love with the classics program, which gave him the opportunity to study the literary, historical, and linguistic contexts for the rise of Christianity. From there, Kim continued his classical and religious studies at Yale Divinity School, graduating with a Master of Divinity.

His pastoral training was at Trinity Baptist Church in New Haven, Connecticut, where God shaped in him a love for the church. Despite his desire to plant and revitalize churches in the northeast, Kim was led back to Texas in 2007 to pursue his PhD studies at Southwestern Seminary, where he began to teach for the College. Up until then, he worked in Information Technology for nine years as a programmer and systems administrator in places like IBM and Yale.

Kim completed his PhD in New Testament, and his areas of research is in Greco-Roman studies and Jewish origins of early Christianity.

Donald Kim serves as Assistant Professor of Bible at Scarborough College. He teaches in the areas of New Testament, Latin, and Greek for the College and the Seminary.
