John Chang-Yee Lee is Assistant Professor of Spiritual Formation and Director of Student Formation at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. He finished his Doctor of Ministry Degree in 2018. His dissertation is entitled “The Spiritual Formation of a Courage to Be: The Interreligious Wisdom of Tillich, Buddhism, and Jazz.” Lee is an ordained Minister of the Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Before coming to United, Lee served as a congregational pastor, chaplain, and musician in San Francisco and the Twin Cities. His research focus and collaborative community efforts have centered on spiritual formation in both Eastern and Western perspectives, existential anxiety, liturgical construction and practices, and music and improvisation as a spiritual practice. At United, he teaches courses in worship, personal and spiritual formation, and classes within the Doctor of Ministry program. Lee and his family moved to the Twin Cities in 2008. They have loved exploring the theater scene, the boundary waters, and the popularity of soccer here in Minnesota.
